Matt Harrington

President & CEO, United Way of St. Joseph County (IN)

Matt Harrington is the President and CEO of the United Way of St. Joseph County (IN), beginning in September 2014.  In his leadership Matt has led the transformation of United Way into an impact organization, developing a Community Impact Plan focused on a collective approach to reducing poverty in St. Joseph County.  He came from LOGAN Community Resources, most recently serving as the Vice President of Organizational Advancement.  In this role he oversaw the advancement of the LOGAN mission through Fund Development, Marketing, Strategic Partnerships, and Employment Services.  Matt joined LOGAN in 2006 as Director of Development.  Over the next six years Matt remodeled the fund development program resulting in over 200% growth in annual charitable contributions during that time period.  He and his team raised $12 million dollars during his tenure to support individuals with developmental disabilities.  Matt says his most proud accomplish was co-authoring a series of books, More Class Meetings that Matter, written for schools to address the bullying of students with disabilities.  Prior to joining LOGAN, Matt spent 14 years as a Sales Representative and Sales Manager for IKON Office Solutions, a Fortune 500 company.  He consistently over-achieved sales expectations in both roles, earning multiple Sales Representative of the Year and President’s Club awards. 

In 2006 Matt graduated from the Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka program.  Matt has been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals since 2006 and joined the AFP-Michiana, Indiana Board of Directors in 2008, serving as Chapter President in 2012.  Matt graduated from Indiana University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs and is also a 2013 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Executive Fund Development Leadership Program.

Born and raised in Valparaiso, Indiana Matt has lived in St. Joseph County since 1992.  He is married to Shannon and they have three daughters, Lindsay (15), Katie (13), and Lauren (10).  Matt is involved in youth sports, currently coaching soccer and serving on the Board of Directors for the Jr. Irish Soccer Club.  Matt stays active himself.  He has been a long-time runner, running seven marathons including two Boston Marathons in 2007 and 2008.  Shortly after, Matt began competing in triathlons and in 2010 completed Ironman Wisconsin.
